STEAM

STEAM

STEAM stands for Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics.  Introduced as an extra-curricular program at Marian in 2022, following on from the success of our inaugural STEAM Fair in 2021.

What is STEAM?

STEAM for young children falls under the umbrella of inquiry instruction. Inquiry instruction encourages active (often hands-on) experiences that support building understanding and vocabulary, critical thinking, problem solving, communication, and reflection. Inquiry experiences are created by providing opportunities for children to learn about the world through STEAM lenses and by asking high-quality, open-ended questions. Inquiry practices provide young children with opportunities to approach problems in new and authentic ways.

At Marian STEAM is all about the experience.  Students participate in a weekly 45 minute lesson with our STEAM teacher.  This program is not assessed or reported upon.

STEAM FAIR

Our annual STEAM Fair is held in Term 3.  This is an event for the whole family.  Students are invited to create and display a STEAM project.  It can include any or all of the STEAM areas and can be a static display, live experiment, or interactive display or activity.  Students can become a sole exhibitor or work together with their friends or family members.

The event also includes displays and hands-on activities by many local community groups and businesses as well as food vans and entertainment.  It’s not to be missed!
